Virtual Machine Compatibility

The use of virtual machines can result in slightly less performance compared to physical machines. Eclipse SE and LOCAL DISCOVERY should run adequately on properly configured virtual machine networks. However, running TRIAL DIRECTOR Presentation at trial on virtual machines is not recommended. Video playback and the sync of video to transcript requires video card and processor resources that may be delayed in the virtual machine translation. It is recommended that Presentation run on a normal laptop or workstation outside of a virtual machine.

It is important that the virtual machine hosts have enough processors, memory, and network bandwidth to accommodate the number of active virtual machines. Overburdening the processor, memory, and especially the network card bandwidth on a virtual machine host can cause performance issues and potential data access and data integrity issues. Overburdening any of these three areas can cause database and file bottlenecks, latency, and possibly corruption. This would be the case with any shared applications and is not unique to LOCAL DISCOVERY, Eclipse SE, or TRIAL DIRECTOR.

IPRO has customers that utilize several different virtual platforms such as Hyper-V, VMWare, and Citrix.

Note: Oracle VM VirtualBox will not work with LOCAL DISCOVERY or TRIAL DIRECTOR. The virtualization technology is different from others in certain areas and can cause issues with certain software, including IPRO modules.

IPRO supports normal Windows compatible storage standards including Windows servers, NAS, and SAN. Similar to virtual networks, the correct environment configuration is the key to success with any technology. Excessive latency or insufficient disk or network bandwidth can lead to issues with any software, including any IPRO software products.
