description

Process with Outside In (Stellent)

As of version 2016.3.1 the option Process with Outside In (Stellent) was added to image Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and/or PowerPoint) documents. Selecting this option:

  • Allows for faster and more consistent generation of images on the first pass

  • Reduces the amount of time spent manually QCing these document types

This option is cleared by default for both new and existing Projects and Jobs.

When selected, only Outside In (Stellent) is used to process images; the Microsoft related options are grayed out by default. Full metadata is extracted and time zone imaged output reflects the time zone handling options configured for the Processing JobThere are two types: Search and Standard. The Search Processing Job allows the culling of data by the dtSearch indices created during discovery. The Standard Processing Job acts upon all files of the selected Discovery Job or Jobs. If more than one Discovery Job is selected, the contents are treated as a single, combined Discovery job for the purposes of searching and de-duplication. During this process task, images are created, raw text is extracted, word positions are extracted, and metadata is extracted for an item.. All files processed by Outside In (Stellent) receive the Stellent Processed flag in QCQuality Control. A process performed on a Processing Job to ensure accuracy of the final, delivered data. QCing can be performed on one, some, or all available categories and/or one, some, or all flags (Passed QC, Text Missing, Low Priority, etc.).

The processing output will differ when using Outside In (Stellent) to view and image documents. However, the QC applied flags, metadata, and optional summary reports will be similar if processing was done without Outside In (Stellent). Other processing options, including Flex Processor processing options, are respected when using Outside In (Stellent).

There are three points in time when processing tasks are created for documents:

  • Process Job start time

  • Post-process operations for Process Jobs

  • Hung Job detection

Process tasks are distributed as non-blocking tasks for Excel/Word/PowerPoint documents when Outside In (Stellent) is enabled. Otherwise the process tasks are distributed as blocking tasks. Previously, any non-placeholdered process tasks for Excel/Word/PowerPoint documents were restricted based on the combination of documents that could be performed by the WorkerAn eCapture module. The Worker (also called the Client) runs from individual workstations and processes tasks. simultaneously due to print driver contention.

Example: Excel blocking allowed multiple Excel process tasks to be performed by a Worker, but prevented HTML process tasks (when using Internet Explorer to process HTML files) from being performed simultaneously as Excel tasks. If a Worker was processing a PowerPoint or Word task, no other Worker threads could pick up a PowerPoint or Word task. In this case, a Worker has only a single thread to process PowerPoint and Word documents; whereas the full eight Worker threads are available for non-blocking Excel process tasks. Non-blocking process tasks for a Job usually complete faster than the blocking tasks.
