IBM Notes ID File

This topic describes the procedures for using the Notes.ID file for Lotus Mailstores.

The most basic features are required: Mail client only, disable Sametime (chat program), and turn off Domino server features. The procedures in this topic apply to IBM Notes 9.0.1 FP10.

Locating the User ID File

  1. Open the IBM Notes application on your computer.
  2. On the IBM Notes menu bar, select File > Security > User Security.

  3. If the Password dialog box displays, type your password and click Log In. The User Security dialog box displays and shows the location of the ID file in the ID File field located in the Who You Are section.
  4. Note the location.

  5. Close the User Security dialog box.

Copying the User ID File

  1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the path where the User ID file is located.

  2. Make a copy of the User ID file. This copy will be used for switching the ID.

Switching the ID

  1. On the IBM Notes menu bar, select File > Security > Switch ID. A prompt dialog box displays that states the IBM (formerly Lotus) Notes Client supports multiple users.

  2. Click Yes. The Choose User ID to Switch To dialog box appears.

  3. Select the Copy of the ID file.

  4. Click Open. The Password dialog box appears.

  5. Type your password and click Log In.

  6. Select File > Security > User Security. The User Security dialog box appears.

  7. Ensure the ID File is the copy that was created in the previous section, Copying the User ID File.

  8. Leave open the User Security dialog box.

  9. Proceed to the section, Changing the Password.

Changing the Password

  1. In the User Security dialog box, click Change Password. The Password dialog box appears.

  2. Type your password and click Log In. The Change Password dialog box appears.

  3. Click No Password. A prompt displays to confirm the choice of No Password.

  4. Click Yes. A prompt displays that states the password change succeeded.

  5. Click OK to return to the User Security dialog box.

  6. Close the User Security dialog box. The Copy of User ID file may now be opened without having to enter a password.

Switching Back to the Original User ID (if necessary)

  1. On the IBM Notes menu bar, select File > Security > Switch ID to display the Choose User ID to Switch To dialog box.

  2. Select the original User ID file.

  3. Click Open. The Password dialog box appears.

  4. Type the original password and click Log In.

  5. Exit IBM Notes.
